This December, I’m setting out on a journey that has been calling to me for quite some time – thru-hiking New Zealand’s Te Araroa. For those who don’t know, Te Araroa is a 3,000-kilometer trail that stretches from the southern tip of New Zealand at Bluff all the way to Cape Reinga in the north. After 2 years filled with major life changes, I’m eager to lace up my trail runners and hit the trail once again.
Missing the Thru-Hiking Life
Since hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2022, thru-hiking has become a passion of mine, offering a unique sense of freedom and purpose that’s hard to find elsewhere. Over the past 2 years, my life has been a whirlwind of new opportunities, including a promotion that led me to relocate to Vietnam. While this move was an exciting step forward in my career, I’ve found myself missing the simplicity and raw beauty of the trail. The rhythm of walking day after day, the camaraderie of the hiking community, and the ever-changing landscapes are experiences I’ve been longing to return to.
A New Direction
My decision to take on the Te Araroa isn’t just about getting back to nature – it’s also about finding clarity in the next phase of my life. The past 2 years have been full of professional growth, but it’s also made me reflect on where I want to go next, both personally and professionally. Hiking has always been my way of reconnecting with myself and finding direction, and I’m hoping that this journey will help me gain a fresh perspective on my future.
Join Me on the Journey
As I prepare for this epic hike, I’m excited to share the journey with you. Through my blog I’ll be trying to document my journey– the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Whether you’re a fellow hiker, an outdoor enthusiast, or just someone interested in following along, I hope my experiences on the Te Araroa will inspire and resonate with you.
So here’s to the next adventure – one that promises to be challenging, rewarding, and full of the unexpected. I can’t wait to see where the trail takes me and to share it all with you along the way.
